(Newswire.net — May 9, 2022) Orlando, FL — Studies investigating the various aspects of depression have piled up over the years. Researchers have been trying to discover the factors that contribute to the onset and worsening of depression.

A brain imaging study has shown that reduced levels of serotonin in the brain may be a potential cause of depression. The findings of this research have also shown that a number of antidepressants work by blocking a protein transporting serotonin away from the nerve cells.

The findings of this interesting research were published in the Translational Psychiatry journal.

This research reveals that in a group of 17 individuals, there was an increase in the average serotonin transporter levels. It is worth noting that the subjects recovered from depression following cognitive behavioral therapy.

“Our results suggest that changes to the serotonin system are part of the biology of depression and that this change is related to the episode rather than a static feature — a state rather than a trait,” said the study’s last author Johan Lundberg.

Lundberg is a researcher at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet.

“The finding raises many questions about the function of the serotonin system in depression and opens up for lines of research that could challenge the prevailing concept of serotonin and depression,” Lundberg added.

This neurotransmitter called serotonin actually contains a transporter protein called 5-HTT, which plays a critical role in depression. The regulation of the amount of active serotonin in the brain stems from the neurotransmitter being pumped away from the cerebral neuron synapses.

This is just one of the studies that investigated certain aspects of depression. Experts are increasingly researching the remedies particularly beneficial in maintaining mental health.

Depression is a serious condition and it needs to be addressed properly and at the right time before it leads to a life-threatening situation.

Researchers have been stressing the relevance of maintaining a good diet for brain health. There are many foods particularly found helpful in fighting this mental health issue, such as fruits and vegetables.

Nutrients like B vitamins have been found particularly beneficial against this condition. These nutrients have long been a popular subject of research due to their disease-fighting potential.

Today, the use of highly potent and pure formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex is widespread.
