Ultra-Processed Food Now Associated With Increased Ibd Risk

(Newswire.net — May 25, 2022) Orlando, FL — Multiple research studies carried out in the past have shown that processed food contains unhealthy ingredients. Some researchers even say its intake may increase the risk of certain health issues.

A study has shown that higher consumption of ultra-processed food is linked with an increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The findings of this research were published in The BMJ.

It is worth noting that ultra-processed foods include those ready meals with food additives, fizzy drinks, packaged baked goods, and sugary cereals. It also includes reconstituted meat and fish products that often contain high levels of added sugar, fat, and salt, but lacking in vitamins and fiber.

In industrialized countries, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is quite common. Dietary factors are thought to play a role in the high prevalence of this condition

In this study, the international team of researchers obtained detailed dietary information from 116,087 adults aged 35-70 years.  The subjects lived in 21 low, middle, and high-income countries and were enrolled in the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study.

The researchers revealed that those who ate five or more servings of ultra-processed food per day compared with those consuming less than one serving, had an increased risk of IBD by82 a percent. Further, 1 to 4 servings a day were correlated with a 67 percent heightened risk.

Interestingly, intakes of vegetables, fruit, legumes, white meat, and dairy were not associated with the condition.

“Further studies are needed to identify specific potential contributory factors among processed foods that might be responsible for the observed associations in our study,” they conclude.

Ultra-processed food intake is not just linked with IBD but also other diseases. This is partly due to the fact that they are loaded with chemicals and toxins that cause inflammation, which can wreak havoc on health at chronic levels.

Aside from ultra-processed foods, toxins and chemicals can be found pretty much everywhere. Experts have been increasingly warning against exposure to toxins and unhealthy substances, which can eventually accumulate inside the body.

Over the years, research studies have shown that toxin buildup is correlated with the increased risk of diseases. It may be helpful to detoxify the body and reduce its toxic burden. One of the ways to do this is to use a therapeutic remedy called activated charcoal.
