(Newswire.net — May 27, 2022) Orlando, FL — Due to the restrictions and lockdowns, many people around the globe are left with no choice but to stay at home and use social media websites. While social media has benefits, it is worth noting research has found it could produce undesirable health consequences.

A study has shown that increased social media use in young adults led to a significantly increased risk of depression within six months.

This research was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

Dr. Brian Primack, dean of the College of Education and Health Professions and professor of public health at the University of Arkansas authored this new research.

It involved human subjects who utilized social media for less than 120 minutes every day. The researchers have discovered that young adults who used more than 300 minutes a day were more likely to become depressed within six months by 2.8 times.

“We know from other large studies that depression and social media users tend to go together, but it’s been hard to figure out which came first. This new study sheds light on these questions because high initial social media use led to increased rates of depression. However, initial depression did not lead to any change in social media use,” Dr. Primack said.

One of the possible reasons why social media, when engaged in excessively, could be disadvantageous rather than beneficial is because it appears to set up standards and ideals the majority can’t measure up to.

More and more studies are looking into the various aspects of depression, and the remedies that could be beneficial against it. Proper nutrition has long been known to be vital for mental health.

In some studies, it has been found that the use of nutrients like B vitamins is helpful in battling depression and anxiety.

A study that lasted for 33 days and involved 215 healthy men has shown that high-dose supplementation of B vitamins worked in enhancing general mental health.

There are many health benefits linked with the use of B vitamins. This is why today, more and more health-conscious consumers turn to the use of formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex.

It contains Choline, Pantothenic acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and vitamin B6.
