Self-Rating of Health Doesn’t Guarantee Protection From Heart Disease, Experts Say

(Newswire.net — November 25, 2022) Orlando, FL — More and more people are taking measures to ward off diseases and say to themselves that they are in excellent health. However, a new study has shown that such a belief doesn’t guarantee protection from a heart attack or stroke.

A study was published in the JAMA Network Open.

This research involved over 6,800 individuals with an average age of 62 years. At the start of the research, the subjects were made to rate their health as excellent, very good, good, or poor/fair.

It is further worth noting that over half of the male participants reported being in very good or excellent health.

It is also important to stress that they all had coronary artery calcium (CAC) scan, which indicates if there is plaque buildup in the arteries of the heart.

The findings of the study have shown that self-rating of health does correlate with the risk of a future heart attack or stroke. However, it is important to stress that it wasn’t as strong as they anticipated.

As a matter of fact, individuals who believed they were in excellent health only had a 45 percent reduced risk of having a heart attack or stroke compared with those who reported fair or poor health.

The researchers strongly suggest getting check-ups and tests regularly instead of solely relying on self-rating of health. This is one of the best ways to keep heart health in check.

Decades of research have demonstrated that there are various ways to protect and improve heart health. One of these techniques is to resort to the use of certain natural ingredients like a phytochemical called curcumin, which can be found in turmeric.

In multiple research studies, it has been suggested that one of the mechanisms curcumin exerts to benefit the heart is its ability to combat hypertension. It is important to note that high blood pressure is one of the major risk factors for heart disease.

Scientists also suggest that curcumin may aid in preventing stroke. Curcumin has been found to help by decreasing the amount of plaque and cholesterol buildup in the arteries. It has also been found to lessen the amount of inflammation around the heart and the arteries.

What makes this powerful phytochemical even more beneficial is that it has positive effects on LDL cholesterol levels. More particularly, it aids in decreasing bad cholesterol levels and this is highly beneficial for cardiovascular health.

Individuals who are looking to benefit from the heart-health effects of this phytochemical may take into account the use of Incredipure Curcumin (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Supplement-BioPerine-Capsule/dp/B0166KAW8M).
