(Newswire.net — February 10, 2017) Orlando, FL — Today, many people are relying on the use of pharmaceutical drugs to address a variety of medical conditions. However, there is also an increasing popularity in the use of natural alternatives, such as turmeric.

A lab-based study highlights the potential ability of turmeric to help reduce intestinal inflammation. Turmeric comes from the ginger family and has long been used as traditional Indian curry spice. It has a yellow-orange color with a potent taste.

One of the most interesting things about turmeric is that was used as a traditional medicine in Egypt, India, and China for at least 6000 years. In the past 50 years, this spice has been subjected to numerous research studies and clinical trials.

In the study, the researchers found that curcumin was able to help reduce intestinal inflammation in rats exposed to an irritant. There was also a decrease in DNA binding as well as an inhibition of NF-kappa B activation.

Curcumin is a phytochemical found in turmeric. It contains a variety of unique ingredients, that are believed to offer antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-carcinogenic properties.

“Curcumin is even believed to be responsible for many of turmeric’s potentially therapeutic benefits,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

The researchers from Yale University also found that curcumin has the potential to help correct cellular malformation, which usually results in the development of cystic fibrosis.

In experiments involving mice, it was found that the phytochemical was also able to correct the defect of cystic fibrosis as well as significantly improve the survival of mice.

According to some researchers, this powerful phytochemical may potentially be able to stop the growth of cells in three different melanoma cell lines. It was further found that it promoted their cell deaths.

It appears that curcumin may function by suppressing the manufacturing of the proteins in the cancer cells, which usually protect the cells from death. All doses of curcumin tested by researchers were able to reduce cancer cell growth and trigger the death of cells.  It was also revealed that the higher dose of curcumin resulted in more cell death.

In a recent study published in Clinical Cancer Research, it was found that curcumin may be able to trigger the death of neck and head squamous cell carcinoma. While curcumin may be consumed through adding turmeric to dishes and beverages, it may also be efficiently consumed through supplementation.

Curcumin supplements are widely available in the market today. There are many people who take curcumin supplements to potentially improve their overall health as it is thought to offer a myriad of health benefits.
