(Newswire.net — February 27, 2017) –The host of the gala awards event was Jimmy Kimmel, but as always, many famous actors, directors, and musicians joined him on stage and handed the Oscars to the winners.
“La, La, Land”, which scored a record-tying 14 nominations, won six awards: The Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, The Best Cinematography and The Best Production Design.
However, this film’s cast almost walked away with a seventh win!
The organizers made a mistake, and therefore the 89th Academy Awards event was marked by a scandal.
The wrong information was read by the actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, information that the main award of the evening for The Best Film goes to “La La Land”.
A delighted team of “La La Land” appeared on stage and began a speech of gratitude, when the producer, Jordan Horowitz, looked at the paper and said: “There is a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won The Best Picture! It is not a joke!”.
“I’m going to be really proud to hand this to my friends from Moonlight”, Horowitz added.
Warren Beatty apologized for the greatest mistake in the Academy Awards history. He said that he was confused.
“I opened the envelope, and it said: Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny!”, said the Hollywood veteran.
It remains unclear how this error happened, and representatives of the Academy declined to comment, but the mistake probably occurred because for every winner, there are two envelopes containing the winner’s name for each category. This means that one could have ended up in Beatty’s hands while Emma Stone held onto hers backstage.
