RAFTA Music Festival Is Floating Fun

On my recent trip to Europe during the first part of August, I encountered something I had never seen before – music on the water. I don’t mean the band on the beach either. It was literally bands on a boat floating the water. The crowd was in their boats and floats too. The sight was unique, incredible and entertaining.

The event, RAFTA, was held on the Curonian Lagoon, separated from the Baltic Sea by the Curonian Spit, in Lithuania. The weather was perfect. The sun was shining down, creating shimmers on the sea surface like a disco ball in a club. A light breeze kept participants cool and the waters calm. The water must not have been very deep because I could see people walking between boats or standing and dancing in the water.

While the seas were peaceful, the atmosphere was electric. It was clear everyone was having a good time, singing and clapping along.

As a floating festival, it’s hard to name the exact spot where it took place. Just walk along the shore and you are sure to see it. The boats joined and floated together as the bands played. The party atmosphere was contagious. I wish there was something like this here! In any case, next time I go to Lithuania, I am going to try to time it to see this again.
