(Newswire.net— March 14, 2018) — World famous scientist Stephen Hawking, known for his breakthrough ideas in theoretical physics has died at the age of 76, as stated by his family.
“We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today,” read the statement by Hawking’s children Robert, Lucy and Tim.
“He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years,” the statement continues.
Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the deterioration of the nervous system, when he was 21. The doctors predicted no more than two years until his nervous system progress to a terminal stage, and yet Hawkins lived on for more than half a century during which he became one of the greatest scientists that ever lived.
The world-famous astrophysicist had been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a debilitating neurological condition, for over half a century.
Theoretical physicist and cosmologist, Professor Stephen Hawking will be remembered, among other things, for cosmic theories and popular science with his best-selling book, ‘A Brief History of Time.’
Hawking often warned about overpopulation of our planet. Arguing that the Earth is “becoming too small for us” he supported the colonization of Mars and interstellar travel.
Professor Hawking strongly believed that the human race would master the technology of deep space travel and go to Alpha Centauri, the nearest solar system.
One of Hawking’s theories of deep space travel consider wormholes as possible portals to other galaxies, and space warp theory that says it is possible to bend the universe and bring distances closer, rather than traveling from point A to B in speeds near the speed of light.
Professor Hawking was also known for his apocalyptical prognoses for our civilization on Earth. He strongly believed that if we do not colonize and move our population to other planets, the human race would not survive more than another 100 years. Like in the Terminator movie scenario, Hawking also predicted we will be “superseded” by a powerful artificial intelligence (AI) if the progress in robotic research and development continues at its current steady pace. Along with Elon Musk last March he urged for the prevention of uncontrolled development of Artificial Intelligence.
Stephen Hawking’s love of life and love of science has been immortalized in the 2014 movie “The Theory of Everything” featuring Eddie Redmayne who won the Academy Award for his role as the famous stellar professor.
