(Newswire.net — April 22, 2017) Woodbridge, Virginia — Now is a good time to stock up on emergency preparedness supplies if you live in the state of Texas. In 2015, a legislature was passed in Texas to enact an emergency supply tax-free weekend each year. This is similar to the tax-free weekends many states have in August for going back to school, just geared towards helping citizens prepare for emergencies. The “weekend” lasts from 12:01 AM on Saturday, April 22 through midnight on Monday, April 24.

These emergency preparation supplies qualify for tax exemption if purchased for a sales price:

A basic yet necessary item on the list that all should consider buying this weekend is the First Aid Kit. A First Aid Kit typically carries items to administer in case of personal injury and can range from a few items to 100 items. The more items the kit contains, the more varied the injuries that can be treated. If an injury is serious, professional help should be called immediately, before administering aid until the medical professionals arrive.

A compact First Aid Kit is a good option for those who want versatility out of their Kit, as they are small and lightweight, such as the Surviveware First Aid Kit, available on Amazon. In addition to being small and lightweight, it is made of a water-resistant material and has MOLL-E compatible straps that allow it to be strapped onto nearly anything, from a rucksack to a bicycle.

This ease of use is commented on frequently by its users, such as a recent review by Dina, “This is a very sturdy and well-made kit. The supplies are good quality, and there is a nice selection of bandages included. It is also a size that is manageable for a kayak, bicycle, or to put in the glove box of our truck. I looked at several options before choosing this kit, and was not disappointed.”

Being able to carry a First Aid Kit anywhere is a huge advantage as you can never know when an emergency will strike, which is the reasoning behind the emergency supply tax-free weekend.

“Anyone who’s lived through spring in Central Texas knows that the weather is anything but predictable. Now is the time to get those supplies, be prepared, and not wait until that disaster happens,” said Chris Bryan, a spokesman for the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

Stocking up on emergency supplies is a crucial component of emergency preparedness, particularly in a state like Texas that experiences severe weather, like hail, strong thunderstorms, and tornadoes. Other states should take note and follow Texas’ lead on this emergency supply tax-free weekend, as few places in the US are safe from severe weather, with nearly all states experiencing extreme weather throughout the year such as blizzards, hurricanes, mudslides, wildfires, earthquakes, and flooding.

The sale is available in stores and at select online retailers, such as the Surviveware First Aid Kit, on Amazon.
