(Newswire.net — June 5, 2013) Denver, CO — The 6th Annual Carnival and Fun Run has been announced, to be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Commerce City, Colorado.
Otherwise dubbed “Ellie’s Carnival”, the purpose of the event is to raise awareness for childhood cancer, and to raise funds for related organizations and causes. This year’s benefactor is the Denver Children’s Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, who treats over 1,500 patients a year. The Center is the only cancer center in the Rocky Mountain region that provides care for patients from birth to age 25.
The namesake of this event, Ellie, is an eight year old girl, who at the age of three was diagnosed with Stage IV Widely Diffuse Anaplastic Wilm’s Tumor, a highly aggressive and rare form of pediatric kidney cancer. The carnival was initiated by Ellie’s aunt, originally as a way to help her family. The event became such a success that it was turned into an annual carnival, attended by many local families. Ellie’s cancer is now in remission, and the carnival continues to benefit related causes each year.
This year’s carnival will include opportunities to help those children and families dealing with childhood cancer. A blood mobile will be present for adults to donate blood, and there will be a balloon release to honor the families of those dealing with childhood cancer. A bounce house, fire truck, face painting, and even a reptile show will entertain children as well. Live music, vendors, a silent auction and food will be available for attendees.
A “Fun Run” will take place before the carnival. The $25 registration fee for the run includes a t-shirt, snack, meal ticket, and wrist band for carnival admission. Registration is available on the day of the event, but to save time, registrants are encouraged to register and donate online.
The Annual Carnival will be held in Reunion Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The Kids Fun Run will begin at 9:30 AM, with the carnival taking place from 10 AM-3 PM.
