(Newswire.net — December 16, 2021) Orlando, FL — Due to the alarming rates of antibiotic resistance, more and more experts are strongly stressing the relevance of taking preventive measures against UTIs. These range from consuming more water to drinking cranberry juices.

A study has particularly shown that cranberry products work in preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs).

The findings of this interesting research were published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.

Cranberry has been found to contain chemicals that prevent the infection-causing bacteria from latching onto the cells lining the urinary tract.

Research warns that UTIs cause a healthcare burden of more than $2 billion in treatment costs every year. UTI develops when bacteria like the E.coli adhere to the cells lining the urinary tract.

Cranberry contains various chemicals found to work wonders in warding off infection. One of the chemicals is called proanthocyanidins (PACs) which prevent the E.coli from sticking to the urinary tract epithelial cells.

It is worth noting that E.coli is the cause of about 85 percent of UTIs and 90 percent of cases of acute pyelonephritis.

This research was carried out by Paola Pinzón-Arango, Yatao Liu, and Terri Camesano, from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Massachusetts.

The investigators exposed E.coli grown in culture to either light cranberry juice cocktail or cranberry PACs. Thereafter, they measured the adhesion forces between the bacteria and a silicon surface through the use of atomic force microscopy.

It’s particularly found that the longer the bacteria were exposed to either of the treatments, the greater the reduction in bacterial attachment. It has led the authors to suggest that the effect was reversible.

This means that bacteria regrown in an environment in the absence of cranberry juice or PACS restored their ability to latch onto the model surface.

More studies are still underway to learn about the strong UTI-fighting effects of cranberry, which also contains a therapeutic sugar called D-mannose.

Years of research have shown that D-mannose is one of the reasons why cranberry is quite helpful against infection. It works by binding with E.coli and other UTI-causing bacteria to eliminate them from the body before they reach the urinary tract and cause an infection.

Extra-strength supplements like Divine Bounty D-mannose could be an excellent choice for individuals who want to stay UTI-free. This amazing formula is known for its high potency and purity and even has added cranberry and dandelion extracts.

There are many who resort to the use of this formula as a preventive measure against UTIs. (amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0)
