Advancements in AMB Technology in Remote Golf Trolleys Changing How Golfers Play

(Newswire.net — April 5, 2016) Bend, OR — With every new golf season, amateurs and pros are dusting off the golf bags and hitting the links for a few rounds on their favorite courses. They are also taking to their feet to navigate the golf course as more people are seeing the benefits of walking golf to stay in physical shape. Yet golfers on extremely hilly courses have found it necessary to buy remote-controlled golf carts to safely negotiate downhill travel when carrying heavy golf bags. While this solution has eased shoulder and back pain, there are still inherent problems when using standard golf trolleys or even electric golf trolleys on hilly courses. There was no sure method of controlling the cart’s speed while going downhill except to hold back on the handles, still making the trek downhill an unpleasant experience.

Cart Tek has sought to bring back the enjoyment of walking golf on any terrain by introducing AMB — advanced motor braking, or “downhill braking” — for their line of GRi-975Li electric golf trolleys. Advanced motor braking involves the use of dual motors that are engineered with an electronic sensor. This sensor detects the speed of each wheel while the cart is used along the course. When encountering a steep decline along the hill where the wheels begin to move faster, the sensor detects this increased movement and slows down the cart by turning the speed dial counter-clockwise. Such advancements in AMB technology allows for golfers to have a control device where the cart can be brought to a halt on hilly courses.

While tackling this speed control challenge, Cart Tek also had to keep in mind that golf trolleys and remote controlled caddies still needed to be lightweight enough so that it could navigate uphill climbs without putting an undue strain on the electronics or battery. When going through the designs of the AMB technology, Cart Tek was able to create a system with all the motors, gearboxes and electronics housed internally inside the frame. The battery on the trolley has an extension so it could easily be removed and placed into a pouch on a golf bag. Cart Tek was able to place a longer-lasting battery on the electric trolley that could last for 5 to 6 years (800 to 1,000 charging cycles). Then they used lightweight, sturdy materials that would be able to support the golf bag while still having the power to get through all 18 holes on the most rugged courses.

With all the electronics and AMB system, the electric trolley came to a weight of 21.5 pounds. So golfers of all ages and genders could easily disassemble and fold-up the electric trolley just by lowering the handle adjustment and folding the frame into a flat position. To increase user-friendliness when transporting the electric trolley to different vehicles, the drive wheels are removable to shorten the length of the cart without negatively impacting the AMB technology so it can be placed on car seats or in small trunks.

Golf technology is constantly changing, bringing new types of equipment to the market to enhance a player’s game and to make this sport more enjoyable. While golf clubs, GPS devices and golf apparel help the golfer as they step up to the tee, electric trolleys and remote-controlled caddies are become versatile equipment that is trouble free and can last for years. These features are exactly what walking golfers desire when they take to the golf course.

For these golfers, they don’t want to be confined behind the acrylic windshield as they putter along the golf cart trails. They came to the course to enjoy what the open grounds have to offer. They take a moment to smell the ocean breezes, feel the manicured grass underneath their feet, and watch the birds flying overhead.

Yet some of the toughest courses with steep hills are challenging even the most fit golfers who leave the golf carts behind and engage in walking golf. The AMB technology introduced by Cart Tek that is available in their electric trolleys allows for golfers to have their bags nearby without putting added strain on their bodies so they are more refreshed when making their golf swings. No matter the terrain they encounter on the course, they feel confident and in control of their electric trolley or remote control caddie as they can maintain the desired walking speed.
