(Newswire.net — July 23rd, 2013) Kew Gardens, N.Y — Since President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as “Obamacare”) into law in 2010, a highly-charged debate about the future of healthcare in America has taken place. Dr. John Muney,  President  of AMG Medical Group, addressed the situation in an insightful editorial.

The company apparently takes an aggressive approach in keeping costs in line for patients as anyone can receive all-inclusive primary care services for a flat fee of $89 per month.  “It goes without saying that Americans cannot afford to purchase healthcare because it is too expensive. Unfortunately, Obamacare will fail to make healthcare more affordable for Americans because it effectively increases premiums for various reasons,” said Dr. Muney.

Dr. Muney provides a seven-point outline that looks at the problems facing health care providers and patients and how those challenges are driving up costs for affordable healthcare.  One example that is particularly striking is how much administrative costs figure greatly into overall healthcare costs.  He notes that Obamacare allows insurance companies to retain 20% of premiums for administration and profits. The remaining, 80% of premiums are distributed to providers, who also happen to have 20-25% administrative costs.

Another major area driving up costs, according to Muney, are insurance premiums.  Given the threat of malpractice suits, doctors ordinarily practice defensive medicine, which increases healthcare costs by 10%. Even though certain tests or procedures may not be necessary, doctors will usually go ahead with such tests or treatments in order to avoid legal issues. The fact that 10-20% of a physician’s income is spent to cover malpractice premiums illustrates the pressures that the field exerts in terms of healthcare cost.

“I strongly believe that healthcare costs can be reduced by 60% through targeted efforts in each area,” Dr. Muney said.

AMG Medical Group offers unique ways to reduce healthcare cost and increase access.  The AMG services include unlimited check-ups, sick visits, office-based surgical care, gynecological care, pediatrics, lab work, imaging and physical therapy.
