An Unhealthy Heart Increases the Odds of COVID-19 Diagnosis, Experts Warn

(Newswire.net — December 29, 2021) Orlando, FL — Scientists increasingly research the various aspects of Covid-19, especially its risk factors. They have been warning since the pandemic hit that it is particularly dangerous for individuals who are unhealthy.

A study was carried out by the Queen Mary University of London, in collaboration with the Medical Research Council Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit (The University of Southampton).

In this research, it has been found that individuals with unhealthy heart structures as well as poorer heart functioning have significantly higher odds of Covid-19 infection diagnosis.

Through the use of the comprehensive and internationally unique UK Biobank database, the researchers were able to come up with the findings. This database includes health and genetic information from more than half a million participants from across the UK.

These include detailed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of their hearts and linkages to COVID-19 test results from Public Health England.

The investigating team looked into records from 310 Biobank subjects to see whether pre-existing features of the heart anatomy and function were associated with having a positive COVID-19 test result.

The study findings can be found in the journal of Aging Clinical and Experimental Research.

It demonstrates that those with pre-existing unhealthy heart structures as well as poorer function of the heart were more likely to get a positive Covid-19 test result. These links are found significant even after taking into account the possible predisposing factors.

These include deprivation, ethnicity, sex, age, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and previous heart attack.

“In our study, we used imaging data obtained before COVID-19 and showed that many of these abnormalities likely pre-exist and predispose people to COVID-19, rather than occur as a result of infection. This is a very important distinction for guiding our management of patients with COVID-19,” said Dr. Zahra Raisi-Estabragh, BHF Clinical Research Training Fellow at the Queen Mary University of London and lead researcher.

Health authorities time and again recommend resorting to proven measures helpful for heart health. It is strongly advised to follow a healthy diet, and this means consuming foods loaded with vitamins and minerals.

Certain B vitamins are found helpful in delivering heart health benefits. These nutrients may be obtained through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex, which is known for its high potency and purity.
