Artisans of Medicine NYC Reminds Community that January is Thyroid Awareness Month

(Newswire.net — January 20, 2016) Brooklyn, NY — Throughout the month of January, many organizations, physicians, and other healthcare providers across the U.S., including those at Artisans of Medicine NYC, will be participating in Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, sponsored by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. 

Each year tens of thousands of people in the U.S. are diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and hundreds of thousands more are diagnosed around the world, affecting people of all ages and from all walks of life. Thyroid cancer is rapidly increasing among both men and women, and is ranked ninth in most common cancers in the United States, with three out of every four people diagnosed being women.

Events and education this month will be focused on early detection, encouraging people to learn more about common thyroid conditions, how to perform neck checks, questions to ask your healthcare provider, and how to be your own best healthcare advocate.

Understanding the importance of early detection for all thyroid conditions, but especially thyroid cancer is critical to maintaining overall health and wellness.
