Asher College celebrates 25 years of serving the community by providing vocational education for students who desire a career in Information Technology, Health Services, Pharmacy Technology, or Business Administration.

Asher College is proud to announce they are celebrating their 25th year of serving the community for students looking to improve their futures with vocational career education.

Since the college’s inception in 1998, Asher has utilized a blended learning method, facilitating a flexible approach for adult learners who want to enter the workforce quickly. Thousands of Asher graduates are currently working in their communities.

This year, Asher College faculty, staff, and students in the college are taking a step back to reflect on the last 25 years. Asher College President David Vice said, “We would like to thank our staff, employers, partners and agencies who have helped our graduates validate the results of the hard work accomplished by all of you. We did it together, we celebrate with you daily and look forward to the next twenty five years.”

In 1997, David Vice was discussing the skills gap between what employers were looking for versus what current job seekers had. He saw the need to provide in-demand skills to those who were looking to improve life for themselves and their families.

As a result, in 1998 Vice opened a school called TechSkills offering courses that focused on Information Technology skills and careers. Vice used the experience he had gained working at IBM to address the skills employers were seeking. Over the next eight years, the school became approved for Veteran’s benefits, expanded the program offerings to include Medical & Office Administration programs, and became nationally accredited, allowing students to use Title IV funds. Based upon their success in Sacramento, new campus locations were opened in Las Vegas and Dallas. In 2012, they were approved to offer multiple Associate degree programs and thus changed the name to Asher College.

Based on feedback from local employers, Asher College partnered with the Pacific Institute to build upon their valuable career service assistance by incorporating soft skills into their programs. This, combined with resume development and interview preparation, enhanced the employability of graduates and prepared them for success in the job market.

One of Asher’s greatest assets is the experienced staff. According to Asher College President Vice, “The success of our students is a tribute to Asher College’s diverse and dedicated staff.“ Over the years many of the staff have served on numerous boards, received awards, and participated in volunteer work in their communities. Vice has led by example, serving as an ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training) Commissioner for over seven years, on the CECU board (College Education Colleges and Universities) for almost ten years, and for over two decades in various roles for the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS). In 2021, CAPPS honored David with the CAPPS Hall of Fame STAR Award. Vice said upon receiving the award. “Nobody wins this award without being surrounded by extremely talented team members.”

Each staff member’s goal is to work tirelessly to propel Asher College students into new careers through quality, market-driven career education to serve the greater Sacramento, Las Vegas, and Dallas areas as well as the Veteran population. This is accomplished by:

– Providing prompt, individual attention to students

– Preparing students to apply learning to real-life situations

– Establishing a long-lasting relationship with graduates and alumni

– Obtaining feedback from industry professionals

– Employing experienced and capable faculty members who are encouraged to bring their unique talents and sensibilities to the classrooms
