(Newswire.net — May 9, 2013) Richland, Tx — Last month Pear Cantrell, a 105 year old resident of Richland, Texas, revealed her secret to longevity.

Pearl Cantrell credits her daily dose of bacon for her health and happiness.

Hard work and bacon,’’ Cantrell told TODAY.com about her reasons for living a long life. “I love bacon. I eat it every day. It’s got to be crispy.”

Oscar Mayer heard of Pearl’s affinity for bacon, so the company paid her a special visit and brought one of their Wienermobiles to Richland to give her a ride. After the ride they gifted her with a lifetime supply of bacon.

Pearl is a bit of a local celebrity in her town in Texas, and after we heard of her eating a lot of bacon and giving it to all her kids, we decided it would be a good idea to surprise her with the Wienermobile,’’ an Oscar Mayer spokesperson told TODAY.com. “On site we presented her with a big cooler full of bacon, and we made the tacit promise that whenever she wants bacon moving forward, we’re there to provide it for her.’’

“I will never, ever forget this, for the rest of my life,” Cantrell later said munching on a plate of bacon.

Although bacon has become a culture icon in America, the American Heart Association recommends limiting saturated fat to less than 7% of your total calories

The website WebMD notes 68% of bacon’s calories come from fat, almost half of which is saturated. Eating foods rich in saturated fats can raise your cholesterol levels, increasing your risk of heart disease and stroke. And if those saturated fat-rich foods are also high in dietary cholesterol, cholesterol levels tend to rise even higher. Each ounce of bacon contributes 30 milligrams of cholesterol.

WebMD also recommends Oscar Mayer Center Cut Smokehouse Thick Sliced as the lower saturated fat delicacy.
