(Newswire.net — December 29, 2015) — CHP to Crack Down on those Driving Under the Influence. With Christmas looming on the horizon and New Years following a week after, California Highway Patrol is on high alert for drunk drivers.
Just this past Thanksgiving there were 618 DUI arrests and 14 fatal accidents statewide. To look at more similar timeline, in December 2013 there were 733 crashes in which at least one driver had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at or above the legal limit (.08)
To help combat the problem, the California Office of Traffic Safety released a mobile app that will reward designated drivers at partnering establishments. The app will also be helpful to those that do choose to drink by assisting them in ordering a sober ride from Uber, Curb, or Lyft – all within the app.
If you are convicted of driving under the influence you could face jail time, loss of your driver’s license, as well as fees and expenses that could easily total $10,000 or more. Not to mention that you put your life and the lives of others at risk when you decide to drink and drive.
Some suggestions are:
- Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, plan your public transportation or prepare a Uber or taxi ride home.
- Don’t walk home alone. Walking home drunk isn’t nearly as dangerous as driving, but that doesn’t mean you still won’t get into any trouble. It’s best to have a sober walking partner to make sure you end up in your home safely.
- Don’t get into the car with someone who is driving drunk. Allowing someone to drive drunk is just as bad as driving drunk yourself. If you see someone who you think may end up driving impaired, take their keys and find them an alternate way home.
Remember, driving after drinking should never be an option. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
