(Newswire.net — August 12, 2019) — America was thrown into turmoil last week when not one, but two killings left at least 33 dead and many more fighting for their lives after two men fired their guns on an unsuspecting crowd.

Now, an arrest report details the arrest and the man responsible for the El Paso shooting, Patrick Crusius. His mother had clled the poice a few weeks before the shooting, stating that she was ‘concerned’ about her son owning a rifle.

The report has suggested that Crusius had confessed to targeting ‘Mexicans’. Moreover, it has been revealed that he was also the author of an online post that decried and insulted Hispanic migrants.

The attacks raise serious questions of the lack of gun control in the United States. Most shockingly, in 2019 alone, America has seen a total of 255 mass shootings– which is more than one shooting a day.

What is perhaps even more shocking is that there have been even more shootings since both the El Paso and Dayton shooting.  In total this week, there have been five high profile massacres, with more than 100 people being shot.

The lack of gun control and the subsequent shootings have led to an outcry all over the country. Donald Trump, despite previously having more relaxed views regarding gun control, has stated that he will take a ‘serious’ look at passing new gun control measures that will strengthen the background checking system.

Trump has further come under criticism after it was discovered that Crusius was targeting ‘Mexicans’ in his massacre. An online manifesto Crusius wrote features many similar words that the own US president has referred to, suggesting that the Presidents own views directly affected the shooters actions.

Now, as funerals for the deceased take place, it remains to be seen whether trump will act on his words regarding tighter gun controls.
