(Newswire.net — July 14, 2020) Orlando, FL — The number of people who are depressed and lonely nowadays continues to increase. It is worth mentioning that depression has been claiming more and more lives every year.
A study was carried out and it found loneliness epidemic may be due to the increase in the aging population.
According to Louise C. Hawkley, PhD, we found no evidence that older adults have become any lonelier than those of a similar age were a decade before.
Hawkley is from the NORC at the University of Chicago, lead author of one of the studies.
“However, average reported loneliness begins to increase beyond age 75, and therefore, the total number of older adults who are lonely may increase once the baby boomers reach their late 70s and 80s,” she adds.
The studies were published in the journal Psychology and Aging. The investigators utilized data from the National Social Life, Health and Aging Project and the Health and Retirement Study.
These are two national surveys of older adults that compared three groups of U.S. adults born in different periods throughout the 20th century.
It is worth mentioning the subjects looked into the level of loneliness, overall health on a scale from poor to excellent, educational attainment, marital status and number of family members, relatives and friends they felt close to.
Hawkley says adults over 75 were more susceptible to becoming lonely, possibly due to life factors such as declining health or the loss of a spouse or significant other.
“Our research suggests that older adults who remain in good health and maintain social relationships with a spouse, family or friends tend to be less lonely,” Hawkley adds.
Many individuals with depression are lonely. Today, more and more experts warn against depression, which is a mental health issue that claims more and more lives today.
As the rates of depression continue to skyrocket, more and more experts are looking for some effective ways to help combat this condition.
A multi-center study was carried out by researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine. In this research, it has been found that individuals who suffered from depression had low blood levels of acetyl L-Carnitine. The findings of this research were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
More studies are still being carried out to explore the healing goodness of L-Carnitine. However, its use via supplementation is widespread nowadays, especially via Divine Bounty L-Carnitine.
