Forever Young Portland Spa Loses Life

(Newswire.net – August 2, 2013) Portland, OR – Thousands of customers woke up August 1, 2013 to find that their spa membership disappeared overnight.

Forever Young Laser Medical Spa abruptly moved out and locked its doors in the wee hours of the night leaving early morning customers scratching their heads.

Even their website at www.foreveryoungoregon.com throws an error of “website not found”.

In some ways, this move was not unexpected as the spa had faced years of complaints that had been filed with the Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ). A quick check showed a total of 85 complaints dating back to 2009.

Angry customers demanded their paid in memberships be returned. Some had paid up to $20,000 in pre-paid memberships.

An accounting of the total may prove difficult as customer accounts show only how many services they have (had) remaining.

Pat Elden told KATU news “I was here last week for my appointment and nothing was said. I guess they will need to refund my money, won’t they?”

That’s absolutely correct according to DOJ spokesman Jeff Manning. Customers are entitled to refunds for services they did not receive. However, Manning added that it’s difficult to say for certain if clients will get a refund.

“If the company goes bankrupt, customers will become unsecured creditors, along with a bunch of other customers and businesses that provided services to Forever Young,” he said. “They will be subordinate to secured creditors. I can’t really speculate about the likelihood of customers getting any money out of the bankruptcy process.”

Tan Republic is offering to honor Forever Young pre-paid tanning package members at their Portland-area Tan Republic locations.

“Please come, please be patient with us over the next few days,” said Peter Lamka with Tan Republic. “We are going to serve you to the best of our abilities.”

As for pre-paid laser customers, the owners said they are “currently exploring multiple options” for other local providers to pick up those clients.

Moral of the story – “Before you sign a spa contract, do your homework!”
