(Newswire.net — August 27, 2015) Irvine, CA — A recent study from Harvard Business School is showing that management structures today, with the help of the middle manager, are much different than they were twenty years ago. The study shows that there are eight critical capacities leaders must possess in order to be effective in the work place. These eight things one needs to do in order to become successful in business are: manage complexity, manage global business, act strategically, foster innovation, leverage networks, inspire engagement, develop personal adaptability, and cultivate learning agility.
According to Business Insider, it is crucial to have a critical understanding of the continuous changes that are occurring in the business world. In this increasingly volatile environment, a leader’s ability to react to each new scenario that they are presented with is just as important to how they act on it. A leader should be able to keep their employees (from all levels of their organization) interested and engaged in the work that they are doing.
“Before any person can lead, he or she must be empathetic, caring, and respectful towards those who work for them, for employees are quite often the very same people who are holding the CEO up,” says Dr. Maryam Malek, author of the book The New Currency of Leadership: A CEO’s Blueprint for the New Economy shares Malek’s sixteen point plan of measuring, improving and expanding the intangible and is quickly becoming an international bestseller.
“I figured out a way to lead myself so that I could transform any threat into a benefit. With my new perspective, I was able to think and act in three dimensions. Reactionary decisions became a thing of the past, and proactive leadership was my new system,” explains Malek.
It’s true that many people are born with innate traits that make them naturally inclined to become great leaders. That does not mean that the qualities of a great leader cannot be taught to someone. With a bit of coaching and by making a few simple changes to how they work, anyone can be molded into a great leader.
By creating an effective plan on how to run your company, you will become a successful business leader. While there are many plans to follow on how to become a thriving leader, Malek’s book The New Currency of Leadership: A CEO’s Blueprint for the New Economy not only shows you an effective sixteen point plan, but tells you how to put that plan into good use. “Maryam has the ability to dig into the root causes of my challenges and holds me accountable while providing encouragement. I am a better CEO because of her,” says Andy Gale, the CEO of Alloy Die Cast Company.
It is only through trying that we can succeed. Our efforts to become great leaders may be riddled with mistakes, is this a sign that we should give up?
“In order to not make the mistakes of our past, a quick glance backwards is required, of course. Before reaching out into the new currency of leadership, one must be aware of leaders’ past challenges and successes, and the price we paid for both,” says Malek.
