La Poubelle Bistro is considered a landmark in Los Angeles – it’s been in the same spot on Franklin Avenue for 45 years. Started originally as a small creperie by Jacqueline Koster, it has grown into a classic French restaurant in the heart of Hollywood, California.
Over the years the menu has changed several times and had become an eclectic mix of cuisine styles with a French flair. This new menu takes the Bistro back to its traditional French roots and offers classic French fare with a modern, chic twist.
On the new ‘Back-to-French Roots” menu you’ll find appetizers like escargots à la bourguignon – wild burgundy snails with butter, parsley, white wine, cognac and garlic and classic French onion soup. Follow that with the Boeuf Bourguignon or try the Coq au Vin, probably the most famous of all French chicken dishes. It’s certainly one of the most delicious, with its rich red wine sauce, tender onions and mushroom garniture, and browned pieces of chicken with their wonderful flavor.
Celebrity Chef Curtis Stone, author of Relaxed Cooking describes La Poubelle’s Coq au Vin as “the best thing I ever ate” in a Food Network interview. “Coq au Vin is a classic French dish and the combination of ingredients makes it really special,” explains La Poubelle’s Executive Chef, Johnny Zone.
