Nashville, Tennessee based software developer AMG Services recently announced the development of new learning language learning software with which the company hopes to break into a growing and profitable market. The new language learning app will be the company’s first in-house product after several successful years of developing apps on a contract basis for other companies.

The founder of AMG Services, Rich Kelly, commented on AMG’s future as a product company: “We’re not stopping work on client projects yet, because we’re not entirely sure if these new language apps are going to be successful, but ultimately we’d like to solely develop our own products. The idea for the language courses came from a personal interest that many of us at the company have for learning to languages.”

According to AMG Services, the new language learning software will be available for the web, iOS, and Android. The company has traditionally focused on building web applications, but hired two new mobile developers for the creation of their upcoming apps.

“Our combined experience with web applications has shown us that web apps alone aren’t enough anymore,” says Rich Kelly. “Many people today rely solely on their mobile devices as their primary computer and those people often prefer to install a native application rather than depending on the mobile browser. We want to do everything possible to make these products successful, and even if the language learning software fails, hiring the mobile developers is a great investment for our company because it will allow us to take on a wider range of client work.”

Current plans for the new AMG Services language learning software include courses in French and Spanish. AMG Services has contracted language teachers to develop the content for the French and Spanish courses, and says that if the app is successful, the company will eventually also develop content for people interested in learning Japanese, German, Italian, and other languages.

The language learning software will pair phrases in the target language with animations and will utilize spaced repetition to ensure maximum retention of new vocabulary.

“We’re app development experts, not language learning experts,” says Rich Kelly. “So we didn’t hesitate to get some expert advice on how to implement a language learning system. Spaced repetition is widely regarded as the absolute best way to memorize new information, so that is an integral part of the software that we’re developing now.”

AMG Services software development is based in Nashville, Tennessee and is currently accepting new client work. The language learning software from AMG Services is expected to be available by September 2014.
