(Newswire.net — May 15, 2020) Darien, CT –Upper back pain can appear suddenly, such as from an injury or for no apparent reason however, for women with large breasts its a different story. Upper back pain is most often caused by strain on the muscles and ligaments from poor posture and repetitive motions. Upper back pain is experienced by many people, however, women with large breasts seem to have a higher incidence of upper back pain. This is in part due to the strain the weight of the breasts add to the upper back and shoulder I have been successfully treating patients with upper back pain for many years, and have seen first-hand how chiropractic care can help all kinds of conditions with the joints such as the shoulders, the muscles in the neck, shoulders and back, and the spine. Especially for women with large breasts.
The most common cause of upper back pain is poor posture and strain from repetitive activities in a certain position putting stresses and strains on the joints, muscles, and ligaments in the upper spine. Neck pain may also result from overuse of muscles in the neck and shoulder (many shoulder muscles also attach to the neck), the strain on the joints in the neck, or in the neck or shoulder area. A person with upper back pain will benefit from a chiropractic and physiotherapy assessment and treatment. As clinicians, we must address the biomechanical weaknesses that add or make worse the physical stress on the upper back and neck.
So when a female patient presents with upper back and neck pain it is easy to identify if large breasts are contributing to their pain. Some women come for treatment as part of the approval process for their insurance company. Some insurers insist on a round of chiropractic care before they will pay an insurance claim for breast reduction surgery. Claiming back and neck pain is a way to get insurance companies to pay for the reduction surgery. I have yet to encounter a woman with nefarious intentions to get insurance to pay for one thing. Their pain is real and is often chronic. Unfortunately, the only way to know how much the weight of the breast is contributing to back pain, neck pain, or shoulder pain is to actually go through the procedure itself. I have had patients have over a pound of flesh removed from each breast. While this affects a relatively small percentage of the population the pain is real. Chiropractic care can only do so much, surgery at times is the only viable option.
