(Newswire.net — September 11, 2014) Chicago, Illnois —
Libby York, jazz singer, is performing on September 16, 2014 at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, Ill. at 8 and 10pm. Ms. York is celebrating this performance that coincides with her September birthday and billing the evening as “70 Is The New 40”.
Known for her “impeccable phrasing” (Jazz Times) and “cool composure and artful subtlety” (New York Times), Libby York carries on the fine tradition of standard songs written by the originators of the Great American Songbook. Sammy Cahn, Jimmy Van Heusen, Neal Hefti, Billy Barnes, George Gershwin to name a few.
Her carte blanch, take no prisoners approach to life philosophically imbues her newest recording “Memoir”. With tunes like “Thanks For The Memory”, “When In Rome”, “Take Me Back To Manhattan”, “Put It there Pal” and “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off” and “Slow Boat To China”, she glides through the music like Ginger Rogers dancing.
Spending time in Paris, New York, The Florida Keys, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and home base in Chicago, gives Ms. York a world informed attitude and she parlays that attitude into her interpretations of these classic songs with intelligence and humor.
Swinging at all times and not a shouter, her stage presence transports you to a dreamy world, where you can listen to the lyrics and drink them in slowly, like a good glass of cognac.
The musicians on this recording seem to be hand chosen for their fine work with singers. Russell Malone toured extensively with Diana Krall, Warren Vache performed and recorded with Rosemary Clooney for many years and John DiMartino is known for his work with singers, from Freddie Cole to Janis Siegal (Manhattan Transfer). Their instinctual playing creates a warm and relaxed environment for Ms. York to really shine.
“Memoir” was released in March 2014 to great reviews from the New York City Jazz Record, Jazz Times, All About Jazz, Be Bop Spoken Here, Jersey Jazz and Jazz Inside Magazine and other publications “on the jazz scene”.
Elegant, Soulful and Witty are a few of the terms used when people describe Libby York’s music. Her website features selections from the new CD and her 3 other recordings. Her music is available on Amazon and iTunes.
