For most individuals, crossing the bridge from being a salaried employee to a business owner becomes a terrifying nightmare. Some hesitate because the responsibility and most likely, the imagined monsters out there in the business world scares them to death.

Don’t be, says Loral Langemeier, author of the book, ” Put more Cash in your Pocket; Turn What you Know into Dough”. As an entrepreneurial business guru himself, Loral advises new business owners and budding entrepreneurs to harbor positive thoughts about making it as a business owner in this very challenging, financially beleaguered world.

According to Loral, prospective business owners must “feel good” about “making money” not only for themselves but also for their families and friends too. The budding business owner must always keep in mind that “earning or possessing money” is also a way to bring good to other people. One cannot donate to a charity if one doesn’t have money, he says.

Likewise, he advises that owning a business also puts you in the path of self-sufficiency and independence. Therefore, money can be used to create a better world for the prospective business owner. It can also be the path to happiness and a tool for creating abundance in one’s life.

So Loral opined that one has to constantly create this intention of being a business owner. If one constantly focuses on this intention, one can expect a lot of profits to come his way.

Now as part of the process to promote one’s business, a business owner must know how to craft his “Talk Track”. A talk track is like your elevator pitch. It is a one or two-sentence description of what one does and his selling pitch.

So if a likely business owner was selling or offering customized tutorial services, the talk track would contain the following: a) his company name, b) the service or product it provides, c) its distinctive advantage, and d) the target market of his service or product.

Business owners must learn to “walk the talk” as they say. So the objective of this Talk Track is to make the business owner feel comfortable saying his two-sentence business pitch or talk track. The objective however, is not so much as talking about “what he does for a living” but more on to “initiate a conversation with the prospective client” which hopefully will lead to a sale.

So Loral cites the case of Madeleine who can be a prospective business owner by offering personalized tutorial services. Although there are already other tutorial services available in her area, Madeleine lists the five distinctions for her service to be included in her Talk Track. These are:

1. Personalized service, experienced service provider

2. Subject-based assistance, not test-based

3. Results orientation

4. Confidentiality

5. Proven ability to motivate and energize students

Her final talk track then espouses the above-mentioned traits, which goes like this: “I’m an award-winning educator who provides personalized, subject-based tutoring to secondary school students”.

So much for preparing oneself. Let the new business owner go out into the world and promote his product or service!
