(Newswire.net — August 1, 2016) Dallas, TX — As someone who came from humble beginnings, helping those who do not have much in life is second nature to Marcus Hiles, the most prominent real estate entrepreneur in Fort Worth. He is the son of an inner city minister, and growing up he regularly saw acts of kindness towards the less fortunate. Having seen the suffering that disadvantaged women go through and having overcome his own humble beginnings, Marcus, now the chairman and CEO of a real estate company Western Rim Property Services, has contributed a sum of no less than $600,000 for disadvantaged women over the past twenty years.
Marcus notes that within every age group, Texas women have a higher poverty rate than their male counterparts. Furthermore, statistics says that while women are the heads of 20% of Texas households, 51% of poor families are led by women. Disadvantaged women are more likely to give birth to children with low birth weights, increasing the chances of developmental disabilities. Children born into poor families are not as well educated as their wealthier peers, so they are less likely to achieve steady employment when they become adults.
Knowing that women who do not have the means to support their families suffer broader implications in society, Marcus goes to great lengths to help disadvantaged women. According to him, Texas women who face economic difficulties “need a hand up, not a handout”. He believes that it is necessary to leverage resources to maximize women’s earning potential, especially since women make up half of the nation’s workforce. To make this happen, he donates to career service centers to help women explore non-traditional occupations that will usually offer higher wages and better benefits. “Career counseling also provides training in the soft skills needed for successful employment, such as interviewing, technical literacy, active listening, and teamwork,” Marcus adds.
Apart from providing disadvantaged women with steady, good-paying jobs, Marcus also believes that it is equally important to ensure the well-being and safety of a mother’s child. This has made him provide huge contributions to meal programs and donate more than $250,000 to inner city after-school programs. Moreover, to lay the foundation for success for women and the future generations of young women, he has provided 200 DELL computers for students in the urban areas of Texas. Marcus’ commitment to helping disadvantaged women and children is unwavering, and he will continue to support the less fortunate so they can create a brighter, happier future for themselves.
