(Newswire.net — January 11, 2018) Huntington Beach, CA –After a standout career as a professional baseball player, Marvin Benard recently entered a new phase in his life when he accepted a role as Spanish-language radio color commentator for the San Francisco Giants. If you’re an enthusiast, you should get Giants vs. Dodgers tickets when they play each other so you can get the most out of the game.
Mr. Benard, 47 years of age and a native of Nicaragua, played for nearly a decade in the Majors with the San Francisco Giants team, so he is a natural fit for the organization. His experience on and off the field has given him unique insights into the sport he loves and allows him to share his knowledge with Spanish-speaking listeners of the game broadcasts. “This transition is perfect for my goals,” says Mr. Benard. “I have lived and breathed baseball from a young age, and while I don’t know what the future holds for me, I hope it involves the sport I love.” To learn more about Marvin and his career in baseball, visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_Benard.
Born in 1970 in Bluefields, Nicaragua, Marvin moved to the United States in 1982. He was a standout player on his high school baseball team in the greater Los Angeles area. After playing for several community college teams, he transferred to Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. Marvin was then drafted in 1992 by the San Francisco Giants and made his major league debut in 1995. He was a starter for three years, and in his time with the Giants, he won several awards for leadership, most notably the Willie MacCovey Award in 1999. The Willie Mac Award is given for leadership and sportsmanship and is voted on by the teammates. He played all three outfield positions for the Giants, but could most commonly be found on the field as a center fielder. He was known for his hitting strength, and in fact was responsible for the final Giants home run in San Francisco’s Candlestick Park before the Giants moved to Pacific Bell Park (now known as AT&T Park) in 2000.
After his time with the San Franciso Giants, Benard was on the roster of several minor league teams. In 2015 he then took on the role of hitting coach for the San Diego Padres farm team, the Tri-Cities Dust Devils. In 2016, he accepted the job to manage the Nicaraguan National Team in the prequalifying World Baseball Classic tournament in Mexicali, Mexico, a team that he also played for in the 2005 World Cup as a center fielder and lead off hitter. These experiences have all combined to give Marvin unique perspectives on game play. As a commentator who used to play at the highest levels of baseball, he is able to identify and analyze aspects of the game for listeners of the Giants broadcasts. “There are many special moments in each game,” says Marvin. “By understanding the ins and outs of play at the major league level, as a commentator I am able to paint a more vivid picture of what it takes to perform at the highest level for listeners.” For more information on Marvin, visit https://www.laprensa.com.ni/2017/11/10/deportes/2328623-marvin-benard-no-se-cual-es-mi-siguiente-paso-pero-quiero-que-siga-siendo-en-el-beisbol.
