(Newswire.net — July 5, 2016) National Harbor, MD –The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) will subscribe to the XLNTbrain Sport™ online concussion management system, extending the pilot program that ran during the 2015-16 academic year. Last year, approximately 5,000 student athletes participated, with nearly 5% average concussion incidence rate per school, and an average “return-to-play” of 21 days among the participants across school sizes, male and female populations, high school ages, and multiple sports.
Moving forward, the MHSAA will coordinate the implementation of XLNTbrain Sport™ for several schools in the concussion pilot, ranging in size and representing a cross-section of rural, suburban and urban areas, according to Steve Lewis, CEO of XLNTbrain.
“The focus next year will be on the larger schools who have more complex compliance and analytical needs that XLNTbrain satisfy,” said Lewis. “We’ve also recognized a need for a simplified solution for smaller schools, with less resources in IT and Athletic Trainers, so that they can comply with educational, stream-lined testing, and post-injury process to improve athlete outcomes.”
According to Lewis, the MHSAA is considered the leading example of integrated concussion management at a state high school athletic association levels. “It is a proxy for how any large organization of multiple teams, schools, leagues, or geography can apply technology to improve the outcomes for athletes, families, and organizations regarding health and risk management,” he said.
The renewal of the program also enables the MHSAA to utilize the database facilities of the XLNTbrain Sport™ solution, while applying the concussion protocols dubbed the “Gold standard” in recent news report from the USA Today and ABC News. The historical multi-year database tracks and records athlete recovery and health, and multiple incidences of concussions, care of which reduces the risk of second-impact syndrome.
