(Newswire.net — February 27, 2014) San Diego, California — Investor-owned electrical companies San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison would be authorized to seek up to 700 megawatts worth of new-power capacity by choosing clean energy production methods, according to a recent report on the state’s decision to compensate for the loss of the San Onofre nuclear plant. Because nuclear power is pollution-free, whatever methods are used by the companies must meet this same criteria.
However, rather than demanding that the companies support the proliferation of solar power in San Diego, the state is allowing the companies to combine both fossil-fuel-based and “green” energy methods to meet growing power demands.
While the Sierra Club and others who support clean energy such as San Diego solar power applaud the fact that SDG&E is not given free rein to use completely fossil-fuel-based energy, the proposal still leaves much to be desired from the standpoint of promotion of solar power in San Diego. Milholland Electric believes that the money spent on gas and other renewable sources could be used to invest in battery and alternative energy storage technology and products in order to handle peak demands.
Milholland Electric can help San Diego homeowners who want professional installation and low prices for solar energy.
