(Newswire.net — August 21, 2019) Orlando, FL — The prevalence of depression is undeniably high, particularly in the United States. While there are antidepressants available, scientists still conduct more studies in an effort to reduce its prevalence.

In a new study, it has been found that eight weeks of mindfulness meditation may aid in preventing major depressive disorder. The researchers in this study had subjects with subclinical depression, which is also called subthreshold depression.

According to experts, this condition pertains to the occurrence of depressive symptoms that are not yet considered to be severe or persistent enough to warrant a diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD).

Some of the common depressive symptoms are the feelings of guilt, hopelessness, sadness, sleeping troubles, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, and suicidal thoughts.Dr. Samuel Y.S. Wong of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care at the Chinese University of Hong Kong was the study co-author.

Scientists have long been revealing that some minerals like magnesium could be helpful in fighting depression.

According to researchers, this macromineral plays a critical role not just in brain function but also in mood. Its reduced levels are even associated with an increased risk of depression.

An analysis was carried out and it involved more than 8,800 individuals. It was found that those not reaching the age of65 years with the lowest magnesium intake had a greater risk of depression, particularly by 22 percent. In a randomized controlled trial involving depressed older adults, the dose of 450 mg of magnesium enhanced mood as effectively as an anti-depressant drug.

Scientists reveal that magnesium plays a role in a variety of pathways, hormones, enzymes, and neurotransmitters that are involved in mood regulation.

It has even been known to be a calcium antagonist and voltage-dependent blocker of the N-methyl-D-aspartate channel, which regulates the flow of calcium into the neuron.

In cases of reduced magnesium states, there could be a deregulation of the synaptic function and this is due to high levels of calcium and glutamate. This, according to experts, can lead to depression.

More studies are still underway to validate the effects of magnesium on depression. However today, experts are strongly recommending maintaining adequate levels of this mineral.

It is worth mentioning that its deficiency has been associated with a range of symptoms and diseases. Health care provider strongly recommend consuming more food with high levels of magnesium.

Today, more and more people are turning to the use of supplements like Divine Bounty Magnesium Citrate to obtain this macromineral’s health benefits (http://amazon.com/Divine-Bounty-Magnesium-Citrate-Supplement/dp/B01LYWPNY6).
