Omega-3 Fats Thought to Be Beneficial for Shrinking Fibroids

(Newswire.net — July 10, 2020) Orlando, FL — Omega-3 fatty acids have been popularized by the potential benefits they are believed to offer. They are even thought to be helpful to individuals with tumors.

Omega-3 fats are thought to be beneficial for shrinking fibroids. These benign tumors are noncancerous, and are made of fibrous connective tissues as well as smooth muscle cells.

In the female population in the United States, fibroids are the most common benign growth. They are typically found growing in the walls of the uterus. While it has not been validated what exactly causes this condition, there are factors believed to contribute to its development.

According to experts, the development of fibroids could be due to hormonal imbalance, genetics, and dietary toxins. Omega-3s have the potential to offer various beneficial properties.

Fibroids are otherwise known as uterine fibroids or leiomyomas due to their predilection of the uterine walls. This condition usually develops during the middle and latter reproductive years of a woman.

A majority of fibroid cases are asymptomatic. However, they can actually grow and result in heavy, painful menstruation.

According to the “Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine,” there are also other symptoms, such as painful sexual intercourse, abdominal cramps, and increased urinary urgency and frequency.

Unfortunately, there are ways that fibroids may interfere with pregnancy. They usually grow in multiples and this is typically a reason why many women resort to partial and complete hysterectomy surgeries.

The Nutrition and Public Health reveals that some alternative health professionals believe diet is a contributory factor in the development of the condition. There are other factors, such as abortions or birth control practices.

Incorporating certain nutrients into one’s diet has been thought to be helpful against the condition. Omega-3s may be one of these essential nutrients.

“These healthy fats have long been thought to be helpful for the functioning and health of the body and brain,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

These are essential unsaturated fats that can be found in fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, halibut, and mackerel. There are different types of omega-3s, namely the DHA, ALA, and EPA, which are all polyunsaturated fats.

In a report cited in the “Contemporary Nutrition, the typical American Diet”, it is recommended to have ratios of omega-3s of 1:20 and beyond. Omega-3s are thought to be strong anti-inflammatories, and may have the potential to fight fibroid growth. Inflammation has long been linked with the development of diseases and disorders, which include fibroids.

Individuals who want to take advantage of the possible benefits of omega-3s may want to consider fish oil supplementation.
