Recent U.S. Report Warns Heart Disease, Stroke Are Still Major Killers

(Newswire.net — December 3, 2020) Orlando, FL — The 2007 edition of the American Heart Association’s annual statistical round-up warns that the increasing rates of obesity and poor nutrition are responsible for keeping heart disease at the top of the United States’ fatal illnesses.

According to Wayne Rosamond, changes in lifestyle behaviors such as healthy diet and exercise could reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.

Rosamond is an epidemiologist at the University of North Carolina and chairman of the committee that drew up the report.

The report was published in the Circulation journal.

It has shown cardiovascular disease remains the nation’s leading cause of mortality and it even accounts for 36.3 percent of all deaths.

Still in the U.S., it has been found 700,000 individuals suffer from stroke annually.

Virginia Howard says that people underestimate the importance of TIAs.

Howard is assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and chairwoman of the association’s stroke statistics committee.

“About half of patients who have a TIA fail to report it to their health care provider, which is a terrible oversight considering the chance of a major stroke in the weeks or months following TIA,” she adds.

Experts continue to look into the best possible ways to ward off heart disease, and these include the use of certain medicinal kitchen ingredients. One is curcumin, which is a phytochemical found in turmeric.

Researchers say that curcumin exerts various mechanisms to protect and enhance heart health. It has been found to enhance endothelial function, and may even fight a number of risk factors for heart disease. These particularly include its ability to normalize blood lipid profiles, reduce the effects of high glucose, and suppress chronic inflammation.

It has further been found that this natural healing ingredient has an ability to mitigate the cascade of events, which could result in heart failure, heart attacks, and strokes. It may even aid in inhibiting microvascular complications usually observed in diabetic individuals.

In human studies, curcumin has been able to decrease chronic inflammation that is induced by obesity as well as metabolic syndrome. It has even demonstrated its anti-inflammatory effects, known to be beneficial for cardiovascular prevention.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to its anti-inflammatory, it also has antiproliferative, antiviral, renoprotective, insulin-sensitizing, androgenic, antifibrotic, neurorestorative, and metal-chelating properties.

It also contains anticoagulant, antiseptic, anti-platelet, antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, anti-cytotoxic, immunomodulating, and anticatabolic agents.

Due to its medicinal properties, curcumin has been found useful for a range of medicinal purposes. It is even widely resorted to nowadays via supplementation, such as the use of Divine Bounty Curcumin (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
