Research Reports Link Between Obesity and PCOS May Be Exaggerated

(Newswire.net — October 27, 2022) Orlando, FL — Experts have time and again recommended making some dietary and lifestyle modifications to ward off diseases, including those that are linked with hormones. These include polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which continues to affect women around the globe today.

Research reports that the link between obesity and PCOS may be exaggerated. This is likely due to the fact that women who actively seek help for the condition tend to carry more weight than those identified through screening of the general population.

The findings of this research were published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

It is worth noting that PCOS impacts around 10 percent of women, and is even characterized by the excess male hormone, irregular ovulation, and menstruation as well as heightened odds of overweight-linked metabolic diseases.

The investigators looked into what has long been considered indicators of the condition, including high testosterone levels, obesity, and excessive body hair. It involved women identified to be having PCOS through general pre-employment health screening and those who actively sought PCOS care.

They have discovered that women with PCOS identified through the screening had around the same obesity rates as those who were without PCOS.

However, obesity rates in those actively seeking treatment were around 2.5 times higher than in women identified with PCOS through the screening of the general population.

“The women actively seeking care had higher male hormones, more hair growth, more severe ovulation problems, which was not surprising because patients who have a more severe condition are more apt to seek medical care,” said Dr. Ricardo Azziz, the study’s corresponding author.

Dr. Azziz is a reproductive endocrinologist and PCOS expert at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University.

“What is surprising to us is that the rate of obesity in women with PCOS who we found in the general population is nowhere near as high as we expected from studying women with PCOS who did seek care.”

Today, researchers are increasingly looking into the use of plant compounds like Diindolylmethane (DIM) in addressing diseases like PCOS.

It is worth mentioning that this all-natural ingredient has long been studied due to its medicinal potential. Due to its ability to normalize hormone levels, DIM has been found particularly helpful against PCOS.

It is also important to note that the remedy has further been found to have immunity-boosting benefits. One of the ways to benefit from the healing goodness of this remedy is to use Purest Vantage DIM, which has 250mg Diindolylmethane Plus BioPerine and Dong Quai. This remedy is crafted in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S.
