Research Reveals Vitamin A Enhances Fat Burning in Cold Conditions

A study was carried out by a research team led by Florian Kiefer from MedUni Vienna’s Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

The interesting results of this research were published in the journal called Molecular Metabolism.

The researchers say that a majority of vitamin A reserves are stored in the liver. Exposure to cold appears to stimulate the redistribution of the nutrient towards the adipose tissue.  

It is further worth noting that cold-induce increase in vitamin A results in a conversion of white fat into brown fat (“browning”), accompanied by a higher rate of fat burning.

“Our results show that vitamin A plays an important role in the function of adipose tissue and affects global energy metabolism,” says the MedUni Vienna researcher.
