(Newswire.net — February 22, 2022) Orlando, FL — The scientific community has been investigating the impacts of various nutritious foods on brain health.
A team from the Department of Psychological Medicine and Department of Biochemistry at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) carried out a study.
In this research, it has been found that seniors who eat more than two standard portions of mushrooms every week may have decreased odds of having a mild cognitive impairment (MCI) by 50 percent.
It is worth noting that a portion was defined as three-quarters of a cup of cooked mushrooms with an average weight of about 150 grams. Two portions would be equivalent to roughly half of a plate.
“This correlation is surprising and encouraging. It seems that a commonly available single ingredient could have a dramatic effect on cognitive decline,” said Assistant Professor Lei Feng, who is from the NUS Department of Psychological Medicine, and the lead author of this work.
This study lasted for six years from 2011 to 2017 and involved collecting data from over 600 Chinese seniors over the age of 60 living in Singapore.
The results of this study were published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Experts say that MCI is usually viewed as the stage between cognitive decline of normal aging and a more serious decline of dementia. Seniors suffering from MCI often display some form of memory loss or forgetfulness.
Further, they tend to exhibit a deficit in other cognitive functions like language, attention, and visuospatial abilities. However, it is important to stress the changes can be subtle as the cognitive deficits are not disabling enough to affect daily life activities.
This is not the case for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or some form of dementia.
Various research studies have been carried out to look into the impacts of mushrooms on brain health. There is also one particular variety of mushroom called lion’s mane studies that have shown to have remarkable brain healing benefits.
Lion’s mane has anti-inflammatory, cognitive-decline-fighting, nerve repairing, blood-pressure-lowering, neuroprotective, cardiovascular-health enhancing, immunity-boosting, cholesterol-regulating, and weight management properties.
Divine Bounty Lion’s Mane is made carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S. It is popularized by its high potency and purity and is accurately labeled. It is even free from nasty ingredients and contaminants experts warn exposure against.
