(Newswire.net — August 4, 2022) Orlando, FL — Today, more and more studies are being carried out to look into the impacts of Covid-19 on various aspects of health.
A study has particularly shown that Covid-19 may actually trigger hyperglycemia and worsen disease through its ability to harm fat cells.
This study was carried out by researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian.
The researchers suggest that Covid-19 may actually bring high risks of severe disease and death in a number of patients by disrupting key metabolic signals, thereby triggering hyperglycemia.
The findings of this interesting research were published in Cell Metabolism.
The results revealed that hyperglycemia, which means having high blood sugar levels, is common in patients hospitalized for Covid-19. Further, it is strongly linked with worse outcomes.
The evidence found also suggests that SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, has the ability to induce hyperglycemia. It does so by disrupting fat cells’ production of adiponectin, which pertains to a hormone that aids in regulating blood sugar levels.
“We normally don’t think that fat cells are very active, but in fact, they synthesize many protective proteins for your body — and it appears that SARS-CoV-2 may disable that protection in many patients,” said Dr. James Lo.
Dr. Lo is an associate professor of medicine in the Weill Center for Metabolic Health and the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Weill Cornell Medicine and a cardiologist at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
It is worth noting hyperglycemia is the core feature of diabetes and has long been linked with inflammation. It is also associated with a weakened immunity against infections.
Early in the pandemic, diabetes was identified as a significant risk factor for severe Covid-19.
“Patients with obesity, for example, may be more vulnerable to COVID-19 because they may already have some degree of insulin resistance and fat cell dysfunction, and possibly their fat cells are more susceptible to infection,” Dr. Lo said.
More and more studies are being carried out to look into the impacts of Covid-19 on human health. It is important to always keep in mind that in fighting off its potentially fatal effects, it is wise to maintain strong defenses.
Making dietary and lifestyle improvements is vital for strong immunity. There are also remedies like the use of a medicinal mushroom called lion’s mane found to be helpful.
It is worth noting this remedy has neuroprotective, cardiovascular-health enhancing, anti-inflammatory, cognitive-decline-fighting, nerve repairing, blood-pressure-lowering, immunity-boosting, cholesterol-regulating, and weight management properties.
It is obtained widely today through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty Lion’s Mane. (http://www.amazon.com/Organic-Lions-Mane-Mushroom-Capsules/dp/B07LGR1KN7).
