Research Warns Walnuts May Reduce Blood Pressure for Those at Risk of Heart Disease

(Newswire.net — January 12, 2022) Winnetka, IL — More and more people are struggling from highly prevalent conditions like hypertension, which is a risk factor for heart disease. Some studies suggest that certain foods are found particularly helpful in battling both conditions.

One study was carried out by researchers from the new Penn State.

In this study, it has been found that walnut consumption combined with a diet low in saturated fats may aid in lowering blood pressure in individuals at risk of cardiovascular disease.

This randomized, controlled trial looked into the impacts of replacing some of the saturated fats in the diets containing walnuts. The investigators found that subjects who ate whole walnuts on a daily basis had reduced central blood pressure.

It is worth noting that whole walnut intake was made in combination with lower overall amounts of saturated fat.

Researchers reveal that central pressure is the pressure exerted on organs like the heart. Such a measure, such as blood pressure measurement made in the traditional way in the arm, offers information about the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Penny Kris-Etherton said the study suggests that because walnuts lowered central pressure, their risk of CVD may have also decreased.

Kris-Etherton is a Distinguished Professor of Nutrition at Penn State.

“When participants ate whole walnuts, they saw greater benefits than when they consumed a diet with a similar fatty acid profile as walnuts without eating the nut itself,” Kris-Etherton said.

“So it seems like there’s a little something extra in walnuts that are beneficial — maybe their bioactive compounds, maybe the fiber, maybe something else — that you don’t get in the fatty acids alone,” she added.

According to Alyssa Tindall, the study was one of the first to try to uncover which parts of the walnuts help support heart health.

Tindall is a recent student in Dr. Kris-Etherton’s lab and a new Ph.D. graduate in nutrition.

The findings were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

The kitchen undeniably is a great source of some of the world’s most therapeutic ingredients. In addition to the consumption of walnuts, there are also some remedies like the medicinal herb called ashwagandha that may be helpful.

According to researchers, ashwagandha has remarkable heart health potentials. Some studies even show it has adaptogenic, antidepressant, anxiolytic, antimicrobial, hypocholesterolemic, cardioprotective, antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic agents, as well as tannins, potassium, nitrate, fatty acids, and glucose.

NutraHerbals Ashwagandha is an excellent source of this remedy. It is worth noting that more and more health-conscious consumers are actually turning to the use of this remedy.  (http://amazon.com/organic-ashwagandha-root-powder/dp/B01GZALWGO)
