(Newswire.net — May 19, 2021) Orlando, FL — Pollutants are some of the most dangerous threats to human health. This is why more and more experts are investigating increasingly on how they damage the body.
One study was carried out by the researchers from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, Ludwig Maximilian University, and Hasselt University.
In this new review, the investigators were able to identify eight hallmarks of environmental exposures, which chart the biological pathways through which pollutants contribute to the disease and various factors.
These particularly include epigenetic alterations, mitochondrial dysfunction, endocrine disruption, altered intercellular communication, oxidative stress and inflammation, genomic alterations and mutations, altered microbiome communities, and impaired nervous system function.
The findings of this research were published in the journal Cell.
According to senior author Andrea Baccarelli, MD, PhD, every day we learn more about how exposure to pollutants in air, water, soil, and food is harmful to human health.
Baccarelli is chair of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia Mailman School.
“Less understood, however, are the specific biological pathways through which these chemicals inflict damage on our bodies. In this paper, we provide a framework to understand why complex mixtures of environmental exposures bring about serious illness even at relatively modest concentrations,” she added.
It is worth noting that humans are continually exposed to a mixture of pollutants, which can result in changes to the body in multiple domains, from conception to old age. It is further worth noting they govern gene expression, trigger physiological responses, train and shape our immune systems, and determine wellbeing and disease.
Advances in biomedical technologies and data science will allow us to delineate the complex interplay of environmental insults down to the single-cell level,” said Baccarelli. “
This knowledge will help us develop ways to prevent and treat illness. With the serious environmental challenges like air pollution and climate change, most of all, we need strong local, national, and inter-governmental policies to ensure healthy environments,” she further explained.
Pollutants and toxins have long been studied on by researchers due to their disease-triggering impacts. They can be found pretty much everywhere, and once they accumulate inside the body, they may end up triggering the onset of diseases.
In addition to avoiding exposure to pollutants and toxins, it is also recommended to have a body detox. One of the safe and effective ways to do this is to use formulas like Divine Bounty Activated Charcoal.
In various research studies, it has been found that activated charcoal works wonders in cleansing the body from toxins.
