(Newswire.net — March 15, 2021) Orlando, FL — Multiple studies have shown that sleep deprivation could increase the risk of certain diseases. Researchers have been strongly recommending to resort to certain measures that could be helpful in promoting sleep quality and quantity.

A study was carried out and published in the Circulation, which is the journal of the American Heart Association.

It was spearheaded by Susanna Larsson, Ph.D., lead study author and associate professor of cardiovascular and nutritional epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.

In this research, it has been found that individuals suffering from insomnia may be at a heightened risk of coronary artery disease.

Statistics have revealed that this sleep issue called insomnia affects around 30 percent of the general population. It has long been associated with a heightened risk of stroke and heart disease.

“These observational studies were unable to determine whether insomnia is a cause, or if it is just associated with them,” explained Larsson.

The investigators of this research applied a technique called Mendelian randomization, which utilizes genetic variants known to be linked with a potential risk factor, such as insomnia, to decrease bias in the results.

Involving 1.3 million subjects, the researchers found genetic variants for insomnia were linked with significantly higher risk of heart failure, ischemic stroke, and coronary artery disease.

More studies are still underway to learn about the dangers of insomnia or sleep deprivation on a regular basis. Experts have been looking into some ways to help people who struggle from insomnia achieve better sleep.

It is interesting to note that researchers have been looking into the relationship between gut health and sleep. Maintaining gut health has long been found to be influential in various aspects of health.

A majority of bacteria in the body reside in the gut, and they are found to communicate with the brain through a so-called gut-brain axis.

Scientists have shown that bacteria in the gut have the ability to produce and regulate many neurotransmitters and hormones that affect sleep.

Certain types of probiotics have been scientifically found to enhance the levels of a certain hormone that regulates sleepiness. There are also probiotics that play a significant role in sleep quality.

It is worth mentioning that today, probiotics are widely consumed via supplementation like the use of Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes.

Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes contain 500 mg of digestive enzymes, namely lipase, amylase, invertase, Glucoamylase, papain, and bromelain. It even has prebiotics, and probiotics.
