Business owner and community member Scott Tucker was recently named project head of the upcoming community clean-up day, “Clean Our Streets.”

Tucker serves his community in many ways in order to keep busy throughout the year, including running in charity races and serving as auctioneer at a monthly fundraising auction. The small business owner uses community service as a means to connect with his neighbors, employees, friends, and family – and encourages others to do so as well.

“I’ve been active in community projects since I setup shop here six years ago, so I was super excited when they came to me for the job,” said Tucker. “This is the first official role I’ve had and it feels good.”

The clean-up will last all morning, with members focusing on picking up trash along public streets and parks. The clean-up will include volunteers from almost all the businesses in town along with many community members. All are welcome to join in and no sign up or registration is needed.

“Anyone and everyone is welcome to help,” says project organizer Martha Robbins. “Kids, parents, grandparents; there will be something for everyone to do so don’t let that be an excuse not to come.”

Afterwards there will be a small barbecue at the community center with some fun activities for families and kids. Participants will also have an opportunity to share any interesting debris they found during the clean-up. Community members are encouraged to bring food to share with everyone after a morning of clean-up activities.

“We hope this is only the beginning,” says Tucker. “We want to do this more and more, keeping the community clean, but more importantly getting people interacting with each other. With more and more online stores being the norm now, it’s becoming far less common to interact with people and businesses in your own town. We are trying to counter that in whatever way we can.”
