(Newswire.net — January 10, 2017) Orlando, FL — Arthritis causes pain and other symptoms that may make daily life a struggle. There are those who resort to a variety of pain management options but it seems many arthritis sufferers still live a reduced quality of life.

Statistics reveal 27% of arthritis sufferers report poor overall health, versus the 12% of those who do not have arthritis. In a survey, it was revealed that the condition doesn’t just impact sufferers physically but also mentally.

As a matter of fact, the health-related quality of life of individuals with arthritis was two to three times more challenging than for those who do not suffer from the condition. Adult arthritis sufferers are also found to be mentally unhealthier.

In a study featured in Arthritis Care & Research, the researchers made a comparison in the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of sufferers and non-sufferers of arthritis. Some of the indicators were overall health, and the number of days they have been physically and mentally unwell in the past 30 days.

The researchers also took into account the days in which the sufferers were unable to engage in physical activities due to poor physical and mental health. They have also calculated the overall physically and mentally unhealthy days.

Sylvia Furner, MPH, PhD, researcher from the school of public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, reveals that their analysis demonstrated the values for all the HRQOL measures were 2 to 3 times more in individuals with arthritis than those without the condition.

It has also been specified that individuals with arthritis had more physically and mentally unhealthy days. It was also found that those who were physically active had better health-related quality of life than those who were inactive.

Furner further revealed that since arthritis is highly prevalent in the United States, it is essential to have interventions that could address both the mental and physical health of the sufferers.

Today, there are many arthritis sufferers who are resorting to a variety of measures to ensure that they are physically and mentally well. There are those who address their pain to feel better. There are several pain management options, such as the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

NSAIDs have long been used to ease pain and inflammation, as well as improve the mobility of sufferers. However, since there has been a widespread scare in the potential side effects linked with the use of some of these medications, more and more sufferers are turning to the use of natural alternatives.

One of the potential natural alternatives for arthritis is glucosamine, which is a popular joint health supplement. Glucosamine has the potential to repair damaged cartilage as well as improve overall joint health.
