(Newswire.net — August 3, 2022) Orlando, FL — Today, more and more researchers are carrying out studies to look into the effects of medical conditions on each other. These include diabetes or prediabetes with brain health.
A study was carried out and published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism journal.
This study looked into data from the UK Biobank of 500,000 people aged 58 years on average.
The study findings have shown that individuals with higher than normal blood sugar levels were 42 percent more likely to suffer from a cognitive decline over an average of four years.
Further, 54 percent were more likely to have vascular dementia over an average of eight years.
It is worth noting that the associations stayed the same even after the researchers took into account other influential factors. These include deprivation, smoking, BMI, age, and whether or not participants had cardiovascular disease.
Individuals with prediabetes have higher-than-usual blood sugar levels. However, they aren’t high enough to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This means they are at an increased risk of developing diabetes.
In the United Kingdom, there are an estimated five to seven million individuals with prediabetes.
“Our research shows a possible link between higher blood sugar levels — a state often described as ‘prediabetes’ — and higher risks of cognitive decline and vascular dementia,” Dr. Victoria Garfield says.
The lead author of this research is Dr. Victoria Garfield from the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science and the UCL MRC Unit for Lifelong Health & Ageing.
“As an observational study, it cannot prove higher blood sugar levels cause worsening brain health. However, we believe there is a potential connection that needs to be investigated further,” she adds.
In this study, researchers looked into how different blood sugar levels or glycaemic states were linked with performance in cognitive tests over time, dementia diagnoses, and brain structure, which were measured by MRI scans of the brain.
Diabetes, brain health issues, and other medical conditions are quite common today. Experts are strongly stressing the relevance of taking some measures that could be helpful in warding off these conditions.
There are all-natural remedies like curcumin found to produce disease-fighting benefits. This phytochemical has genoprotective, antifungal, adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, androgenic, antifibrotic, neurorestorative, and metal-chelating properties.
It also contains antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, anti-cytotoxic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, anti-purulent, immunomodulating, and anticatabolic agents.
It may be obtained through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty Curcumin, which is widely resorted to nowadays. This supplement could be extremely helpful in delivering the disease-fighting goodness of curcumin (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
