Study Shows Antibiotic Residue Persists in Treated Farm Waste

Findings also reveal solid excrement, which is usually filtered out from wet, raw manure prior to the implementation of treatment technologies. It is worth noting researchers say that such solid matter may have higher concentrations of antibiotics than unprocessed manure. 

Such a discovery is particularly disturbing considering that this material, when used as animal bedding or sold as fertilizer, is often into the environment. 

Health authorities have long been warning against the impacts of antibiotics on health, especially when they are misused or overuse. This type of medication has long been a resort among individuals who suffer from infections like UTIs.  

According to experts, the widespread use of antibiotics is often due to the skyrocketing rates of the infection. Antibiotics work in killing the bacteria triggering the infection. However, they also end up killing the good bacteria in the body and this produces undesirable health consequences.
