(Newswire.net — March 20, 2017) Orlando, FL — Rheumatoid arthritis sufferers resort to a variety of measures to improve their overall condition. There are medications and natural alternatives, but there are also other inexpensive and popular treatment methods.

Copper and magnets as rheumatoid arthritis treatments are ineffective, a study shows. Rheumatoid arthritis is a debilitating and painful condition that continues to impact millions of people worldwide.

Magnet therapy is inexpensive, and this is one of the reasons why it is extremely popular in individuals with arthritis. While this treatment is unreliable, it seems that arthritis sufferers still attempt it, with hopes to get healed.

A study published in the online journal called PLOS ONE, reveals that rheumatoid arthritis stiffness or pain cannot be remedied by magnetic wrist straps. The same study also found that copper bracelets are also not effective for the condition.

In the study, the researchers studied 70 rheumatoid arthritis sufferers who were made to use four different devices. They were instructed to wear every device five weeks at a time. A magnetic wrist strap and a copper bracelet were used. According to researchers, the wrist strap has a very weak magnetic field. A third control device called a demagnetized strap was also used.

Research Fellow at the University of York, in England and lead study author, Stewart Richmond, PhD, reveals that the research was designed in a confusing way to stop the participants from learning which is real and which is placebo.

The researchers found that the use of the devices, which include copper bracelets and magnetic bands, did not cause any improvements for the symptoms of arthritis. Tenderness, inflammation, and swelling in the joints are among the common arthritis symptoms.

The Chair of Rheumatology at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN, Eric Matteson, MD, reveals that the findings of the study have shown the inefficiency of magnets and copper in reducing symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

Arthritis sufferers have many pain management options to resort to, and one is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). While NSAIDs are temporarily helpful, they may also cause side effects. Many sufferers of arthritis are encouraged to resort to safer but effective natural alternatives.

One of these alternatives is glucosamine, which occurs naturally inside the body. This natural ingredient is believed to help safely repair cartilage damage. It is not associated with side effects and this is one of the many reasons why arthritis sufferers turn to this natural alternative.

Glucosamine is one of the most popular joint health supplements today. This natural supplement is widely popular not just among athletes, but also arthritis sufferers.
