(Newswire.net — May 21, 2014) Raleigh, NC — Stand Up Paddle Boarding, (SUP), is a newer surface water sport that continues to grow with enthusiasts. Jennifer Aniston, Pierce Bronson, Rihanna, Cindy Crawford and Matthew McConaughey are among many celebrities that who’ve become raving fans of paddleboarding. SUP, in it’s simplest component form, only requires a surf style board and a long paddle to propel yourself through the water. Consider it as a cross between canoeing and surfing with a fun athletic twist.

Stand up paddleboarding offers a fun, relaxing way to play on the water. With a minimum of gear, you can paddle ocean surf, lakes and rivers; best of all, no waves are needed. Stand up paddlers only require minimal equipment and no special clothing, depending on both water and air conditions since most of their time is spent standing on the board. Wetsuits help when water temperatures or if the weather is cooler.

With roots in Hawaii, paddleboards are divided by length into three classes: Stock, 14 Foot, and Unlimited. Stock boards are 12 feet long, and best for paddlers around 180 pounds or less. No matter one’s size, a board and paddle can be custom sized to obtain optimal balance and comfort for the individual’s needs on the water.

SUP Paddle Boarding, a.k.a. ‘Beach Boy Surfing’, can be enjoyed by everyone, at all ages, everywhere there is water. It can be a peaceful & serene gentle exercise form, or a cross-fit style physically demanding workout. However you do it, it’s great for your body, for your core, and for your wellbeing. “Paddle boarding is awesome because you don’t have to be an athlete to do it. Anyone can do it and have fun the first time they go out.“, says Eric Casile, co-owner and principle instructor of One Heart SUP.

Paddle boarding is not just a fun water sport activity, it’s healthy training. Exercising on unbalanced surfaces is very effective for building the core muscle groups, (stomach and back) and for training muscles to fire in co-coordinated ways so that the benefits are immediately transferable to other dynamic sports and activities. Eric says, “It’s the most fun way to get a workout because you’re so busy having a good time that you don’t even realize that you’re using all these different muscles in your body. It’s not like anything else you could do. All the stuff that everybody does to stay in shape, like go to the gym, ride a bike, go running; it just puts all that stuff to shame, because it’s like you’re ‘walking on water’.

If your looking for entertainment, or an alternative exercise option, in the Triangle, (Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Chapel Hill, Holly Springs, Durham, Morrisville) One Heart SUP offers a unique and enjoyable experience. “When you’re out on the water, the time just seems to dissapear. And all of a sudden you realize, ‘man i’ve been doing this for an hour; this is awsome’, and your don’t realize the workout you’ve gotten until you’ve gone home and sit down later and say, ‘I’m kinda tired.’ But when you’re out there, it’s just fun.“, per Eric.
