(Newswire.net — April 6, 2014) New York , NY –New York, New York—Thomas Keating: A Rising Tide of Silence moves to the New York theater after a successful Los Angeles debut. On April 11th, this fascinating movie will debut at the QUAD Cinema, located at 34 West 13th Street, New York, New York. More information is available at the cinema’s website at http://www.quadcinema.com.

Father Thomas Keating spent his early years in Colorado before moving to Massachusetts where he became the spiritual leader of a monastery. In that time, however, he discovered something that completely changed his life and has had an impact on the lives of thousands of others who have read his books and followed his teachings.

During the time Thomas Keating traveled to South America and other places in his role as abbot, he discovered the joy and benefit of contemplative meditation, a practice that fuses Eastern qualities of spirituality with the Catholic tradition of meditation. Thomas Keating believed that this type of spirituality should be available to a wider audience and that everyone should have access to these teachings. Therefore, he began to write books which became best sellers and brought the world of meditation to thousands who were looking for spiritual guidance.

Thomas Keating’s work promotes a self-reflective, silent meditative approach that is the culmination of his early life and teachings. Born into a wealthy Irish-Catholic family, Thomas Keating made the decision early in his life to become a monk, but it was not until years later that he found himself in a position to bring the practice of meditation to a wider audience.

This movie has been 13 years in the making, from the genesis of director and producer Peter Jones’s interest in the Thomas Keating story to final production. Peter Jones will answer questions at a session to be held on April 8, prior to the premier of the film.

Reviews so far for the film have been very positive. The Los Angeles Times notes, “Filmmakers Elena Mannes and Peter C. Jones are attentive to the beauty and discipline of meditative devotion, and their portrait will be of special interest to followers for its intimate conversations with the monk, who turned 91 on March 7.” According to The Catholic Reporter, “Keating does not merely appreciate God, humanity, creation, science and nature but folds all of creation and reality, divine and earthly,

into a zone for silence that is beyond even contemplation.”
