(Newswire.net — May 16, 2013) Mt. Juliet, TN — Timeshare Advocacy International posted this warning on its website citing a report from Wifredo A. Ferrer, the United States Attorney’s office southern district Florida: Three men arrested in timeshare resale conspiracy-
“According to the criminal complaint filed with the court, the defendants were engaged in a scheme to defraud timeshare owners of thousands of dollars … the defendants and others would call timeshare owners outside of Florida and offer to purchase their timeshare on condition that the timeshare owner/seller would send them thousands of dollars in up-front fees. The owners were promised that the fees would be returned to them at the closing. No purchases or sales ever occurred. These fees were simply split amongst the various telemarketers involved in the fraud. To further the scheme, the names of the companies involved frequently changed. This permitted the “new” company to re-solicit the timeshare owner. In total, this scheme took in over three (3) million dollars.”
“Timeshare Advocacy International does offer counseling service to ensure that the resale company a timeshare owner is considering is not a fraud” said CEO Sean Austin. “The scary truth about the resale industry is that there are very few resale companies that actually do what they claim to do. Most will scam you out of thousands by pretending to have a buyer for your timeshare even though it has never been listed. The overwhelming majority of these companies are fly by night companies that are nothing more than listing companies and never help clients get out of a timeshare.”
Resale scammers feeding on desperation of timeshare owners wanting to cancel a timeshare contract have run so rampant that the Better Business Bureau last year named the resale timeshare scam one of the top rip-offs of the year.
Timeshare Advocacy International works hard to educate their clients concerning the legal process of timeshare cancellation.
Austin offers an open invitation to all timeshare owners who are desperate to get out from under the burden of a timeshare with rising maintenance fees. “If you have been approached by a resale company, call Timeshare Advocacy International for a free consultation to validate the company before trying to cancel a timeshare contract using an unknown company.”
