(Newswire.net — November 1, 2016) Orlando, FL — Chalazions are otherwise known as eyelid cysts, and they are small lumps that develop under the skin of the upper or lower eyelid. They grow when the oil gland is blocked.

Lumps can vary in size and there are a variety of reasons why lumps develop. There are those that develop in other areas of the body, while others only impact facial areas such as the eye lid. There are alternatives for cysts and one is the ancient spice called turmeric.

Experts reveal turmeric may be an alternative that can be utilized at home for chalazions.  Chalazions are growths that are not contagious and they are more prevalent in adults. It is also similar to a sty, only that it is less painful and larger. It may come in a localized hard lump and involves swelling that effects the areas around the eye. It may cause irritation and pain occasionally, and when it is infected, it may become red, swollen, and painful.

Chalazions are typically caused by blockage and inflammation of the meibomian glands in the eyelids that produce oil. There are risk factors of the condition such as when one has already suffered from it before or when the eyelids are constantly touched by unclean hands.

There are also individuals who inherently have meibomian gland secretions that are naturally thicker than others. This makes them more susceptible to having blocked oil glands, which may result in the development of chalazions.

This type of condition is not typically serious and rarely obstructs vision. It may even heal on its own within 2-8 weeks. Individuals who want to speed up the healing process may also want to incorporate at-home alternatives, such as the use of turmeric.

There are many home methods for the condition such as warm compress, massage, use of guava or acacia leaves, apple cider vinegar, and castor oil. Turmeric is thought to be a more beneficial at-home alternative for the condition.

To utilize turmeric for chalazions, turmeric may be combined with castor oil to make a paste, which should then be applied to the affected areas.

Turmeric is believed to be one of the more popular potentially therapeutic spices nowadays. Its effects are believed to come from its active ingredient called curcumin, which is a phytochemical. Curcumin is popularized by the variety of unique substances it contains.

Some of these substances are believed to contain antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and antiseptic properties. There are many individuals who want to improve their overall condition who often incorporate turmeric.
